It's like a horror'mystery game you play online, with buddies. Except if you made a mistake, you CANNOT RELOAD. Bioware cannot RELOAD due to "artistic integrity" haha.

I swear, watching the news cycle for this bit of PR non-damage control is almost as entertaining as the combat in ME3.

Sorry, Ymar, I'm deliberately not paying much attention to it all because I haven't yet played the game. Of course at this rate I may never play the game.

You know that story about ME3's ending? It still hasn't gone away. No matter how many journalists call these game buying consumers "homophobes" and "entitled whining children" and no matter how many journalists at IGN dot com talks about Bioware's artistic integrity, it just won't go away. It's still going strong.

When do you think it'll end Phil, when Bioware announces the new ending DLC next month?

It's gotten to the point that the fan fiction written for ME3's ending is better than ME3's ending. And I'm not kidding here.

A bunch of writers making stuff in committee usually has certain problems: namely IQ wise. Somehow they created a good ME3 story and trilogy, until it came time to wrap it all up. That shows that they were good at 'making it up as they go along' but not truly innovators or original creators. Original Creators such as the producer/writer of Buffy/Serenity/Firefly/Babylon 5 had it all planned out in a cohesive vision. An MMO is an even bigger committee. The larger the mob, the less individual creativity is allowed.

I envision future MMOs to be largely fan written and modded. If they can add that, a sort of Minecraft "personal story" crafted not by the producer, but by the player, good things will come. Trying to create a personal story from an impersonal template of a large authoritarian group of writers casting down the stone of entertainment upon the feet of the masses isn't probably going to get anywhere in this century.

I think it might have worked if they had created the sense of the Lost Empire. When Germanic and Gaulish tribes saw the ruins of Rome, they knew that their ancestors had witnessed glory and civilization the likes of nothing which exists today.

If they had turned things upon their head and envisioned the Siith as a peaceful order, and the Jedi Order as the usurpers bringing Chaos, it would have been interesting enough to make people realize that this was the Lost Empire. Creating newer and better enemies would have been nice as well. Copying Buddhism and other religions into the Siith or Jedi Order, could have been done better. But none of these people follow Buddhism or Taoism or Chan Buddhism.

For something they poured millions into, one would think that some original ideas would have been presented. The Hollywood/Star Wars license, however, is showing its age and status quo tendencies. The Original Trilogy was only ever as good as it was because of the input of the staff and the limitations they were working under. Hardship breeds character. When Lucas became a guru and everybody listened to him or shut up in his presence, that no longer became the case. With luxury came lazyness and vice.

A lot has been done with the SW universe, including people who wrote books off of it. But those books went into the future, not the past. While trying to recreate a SW universe in the past, they could not fully depart from the tropes, yet they lacked the access to creative vision from those who reinvisioned the universe. Things such as a dark jedi pulling a star destroyer to crash land on a planet, excessive but at least it pulls on the imagination. But really Hollywood and increasingly more so with AAA game titles, they don't really understand how to create the philosophy, the logic of the metaphysics of a world. Creating an innovative vision is left to the likes of MInecraft and the indie producers instead. And they don't have the reserves to make an MMO. Or rather, the ones that have, made it overseas and they were imported here as free to play.

You may be right, Ymar. I made the post mostly because I was surprised that I couldn't get into SWOR. I expected it to be better, or at least something different than what we've seen before.

Bioware did something to Mass Effect 3 and as a consequence, a lot of players will unsubscribe from SWOR.

http://ymarsakar.wordpress.com/2012/03/15/all-the-reasons-mass-effect-3-somehow-ended-up-disappointing-fans/

Background info on the story.

Right now, their business practice is probably dipping into the negatives because this is about as good for business, either MMO or SP, as Carbonite's recent sub zero drop.
